LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Del Alexander, UNLV wide receivers coach, has been named interim head coach for the team after the departure of Barry Odom to Purdue.
Alexander’s history has spanned multiple coaching stints over the years. He first joined the Rebels in 1998 under head coach Jeff Horton before taking on roles as passing game coordinator, wide receivers, and quarterbacks coach.
After two decades with programs like Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Arizona State, Alexander returned to UNLV in 2023 as wide receivers coach.
“Del Alexander will lead our team starting immediately as we prepare to play in the Art of Sport LA Bowl Hosted By Gronk on December 18,” said Erick Harper, UNLV Director of Athletics. “Del has a long history with successful football programs on a national level and we have full confidence that he is the right person to lead the Rebels into what promises to be an exciting big-time bowl game in Los Angeles against Cal.”
Alexander and his wife, Star, have three sons, one of whom, JD, lettered for the Rebels as a linebacker and a special teams performer in 2018-19.
