NHL Predictions
Dallas Stars vs Anaheim Ducks
Head to Head: Dallas Stars 0 – 1 Anaheim Ducks
Time: 10:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)
TV: Hulu; SN; SN1 (JIP); ESPN+
The Anaheim Ducks (22-24-6) host the Dallas Stars (34-17-1) at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on February 4, 2025. This is the second of three meetings between the two conference rivals and former division rivals. Anaheim surprisingly won the first contest, 4-2, back on November 18. Brett Leason had a huge two-assist and three-point performance while Ducks’ young stars Cutter Gauthier, Olen Zellweger, and Jackson LaCombe each chipped in a goal as well. Lukas Dostal was phenomenal with 34 saves on 36 shots.
Dallas Stars Stay Hot
The Stars are burning hot right now. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games and have won five in a row. They are second in the top-notch Central Division but only two games back of the division-leading Winnipeg Jets. This cup favorite will look to enact revenge on one of the lower-tier teams in the league. Like the Ducks, the Stars have some promising youth in their organization. Wyatt Johnston leads the team with four goals and eight points in their last five games. He is also third on the team in scoring behind Jason Robertson (50 pts) and Matt Duchene (49 pts). The Stars are one of the most well-rounded teams. They are back-stopped by USA Four Nations Team goalie Jake Oettinger. Look for him to get the start with his 2.32 goals against average and .912 save percentage.
Anaheim Ducks Must Keep Offense Rolling
They did it again. The Ducks hit the magic three-goal mark on Sunday against the Canadiens and are now 21-0-2 when they hit that milestone. Who else but Mason McTavish scored along with Alex Killorn. McTavish continues to lead the team with six goals and seven points in the previous five games. Frank Vatrano also tied an idle Troy Terry for the team lead in goals this season at 16. The Ducks will need a complete team effort, like they had in Dallas if they want any hope of taking points from this one. It will take more than him, though. Lukas Dostal played well after the first period against the Habs, so expect John Gibson to start this one. Gibson has a 2.78 goals against average and a .913 save percentage this season.
Prediction
Dallas comes out flying, grabbing an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Jason Robertson and Wyatt Johnston. Anaheim pushes back with a Mason McTavish tally, but a Matt Duchene power-play goal in the second period proves to be the difference. Frank Vatrano keeps it interesting in the third, but Dallas’ elite penalty kill and depth control the game. A late empty-netter from Miro Heiskanen seals the win as the Stars extend their streak to six straight victories.
Prediction: Stars win 4 – 2
