For the third time in college basketball history, a 15 seed has advanced to the Sweet 16.
No. 15 seed Saint Peter’s upset No. 7 Murray State on Saturday night. The Peacocks beat the Racers 70-60 to advance to the Sweet 16.
This is the third time in college basketball history a 15 seed had reached the Sweet 16. Florida Gulf Coast became the first back in 2013. Oral Roberts then did it just last year.
Saint Peter’s is moving on to face the winner of Purdue vs. Texas.

The Peacocks’ stunning victory has even caught the attention of ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit.
“Man, love how much the @PeacocksMBB loves to compete and play for one another,” he said on Twitter. “Incredibly well coached and selfless basketball team. Love watching their culture be rewarded on this grand stage. Congrats and can’t wait to watch you all in the sweet 16!”

Last year, Oral Roberts stunned No. 2 Ohio State, then knocked off Florida in the Second Round. The Golden Eagles were then just two points away from upsetting Arkansas and advancing to the Elite Eight.
Can Saint Peter’s become the first No. 15 seed to advance to the Elite Eight? The Peacocks will play either Purdue or Texas in the Sweet 16 next week.
