Gardner Minshew and K’Lavon Chaisson land
Within a matter of moments Thursday afternoon, the Las Vegas Raiders’ Week 1 starting quarterback and a waiver-claim find found new homes.
According to several reports, quarterback Gardner Minshew signed a one-year deal with the Raiders’ AFC West rival, the Kanas City Chiefs and defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract with the New England Patriots.
Minshew was officially released by the Raiders Wednesday. He still has some offset guaranteed money from his two-year, $25 million deal he signed with Las Vegas last year. Minshew, who struggled badly with the Raiders, will now back up superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Since he was released, Minshew will not count toward the Raiders’ 2026 comp draft pick formula. Chaisson, though, will.
He was signed early last season off the street with the Raiders’ injuries piling up at defensive end. Chaisson played in 15 games with four starts for Las Vegas. He had five sacks and showed some pass-rush burst.
Tyree Wilson, the 2023 No. 7 overall pick, is the No. 3 pass-rusher behind starters Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce. The Raiders also had Charles Snowden and Andre Carter. they can always add depth there as well.
