The San Francisco 49ers might be stuck with Jimmy Garoppolo for another year.
A few weeks ago Jimmy G was one of the top quarterback options on the market. However, quarterback-needy teams have gone in different directions.
The Deshaun Watson trade was expected to be the momentum the Niners needed to move Garoppolo to someone desperate. But it’s been strikingly quiet.
Niners insider Tim Kawakami has a troubling update on the trade market for Garoppolo:
As far as the Jimmy Garoppolo market… shrug emoji right now. Might be time for all sides to do some recalibrating.

Uh oh. The 49ers are in some trouble.
San Francisco’s front office has a few options. The first is the organization could simply released Jimmy Garoppolo. That’d result in a cap hit but it’d save money in the long run and display full confidence in Trey Lance.
The 49ers could also stick with Garoppolo for another year. That doesn’t mean they have to keep starting him over Lance. But that might ruffle a few feathers in the locker room.
Finally, and most realistically, the Niners can wait until the 2022 season to trade the veteran quarterback. That’s probably the best route at this point since it’d allow Garoppolo to get healthy.
What do you think the 49ers should do about the Jimmy Garoppolo situation?
