It doesn’t sound like the San Francisco 49ers are going to be trading Jimmy Garoppolo anytime soon.
Monday night, 49ers GM John Lynch revealed that earlier this offseason, he felt like the team was close to a Garoppolo trade. However, the veteran quarterback underwent shoulder surgery, which halted any trade talks.
“I felt we were close in some discussions and then the decision was made to have surgery and it brought things to a screeching halt,” Lynch said Monday night.
“We either want to have Jimmy playing for us, which we’re alright with, or we want him to get the value.”

The strategy makes sense. However, some are wondering if Garoppolo didn’t want to be traded.
“Jimmy sabotaged. Discussions must have been with teams he didn’t want (Commanders?). He did what was needed. It is what it is. I don’t blame him. That said, it would seem it cost him the chance of a starting gig. Doesn’t seem to be one left,” one fan tweeted.
“Trey Lance is going to have one bad practice and Kyle is going to give the job to Garoppolo,” another fan suggested.
“Having Jimmy play for the 49ers this year is a worst case scenario and I cant think of 1 good reason that Lynch would want that other than him being a bozo,” one fan added on Twitter.
“The Panthers will still kick around the idea of adding a vet like Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield or Nick Foles to the mix. But they’re no longer in a desperate spot to do something.”
