When the Philadelphia 76ers traded All-Star guard Ben Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets, many assumed that the “injuries” that sidelined him would miraculously heal overnight. That hasn’t been the case though.
According to ESPN NBA insiders Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne, Simmons has been dealing with an irritation of the L-4 disc of the lower spine. It’s unclear if this is the same back injury he was listed as having in Philadelphia.
But Woj and Shelburne also said that there’s hope Simmons can return for the tail-end of the regular season. He should be able to come back in time for the NBA playoffs though.
Simmons has not played a single minute in the NBA this season. It was widely believed that he was faking an injury to have an excuse not to play for the 76ers, who he was on the outs with.
NBA fans are largely frustrated by what the whole situation with him:

Ben Simmons finally got his wish in February, when he, Andre Drummond and Seth Curry were traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for James Harden, Paul Millsap and some draft picks.
When healthy, Simmons is a perennial All-Star who can do almost everything. But it’s the things he can’t do – shoot from distance and from the line – that led to his ousting in Philadelphia.
Simmons was historically bad in the NBA playoffs last season. That caused the entire 76ers fanbase to turn on him.
There’s a chance he’ll get his shot at revenge in the playoffs if the Nets reach them though.
