NBC’s Peter King wasn’t happy with one of Bill Belichick’s draft picks during the 2022 NFL Draft.
Belichick made a head-scratching decision on Thursday night to select offensive lineman Cole Strange with the No. 29 overall pick. He was a player that most pundits saw getting to Day 2 or even Day 3 of the draft.
The lineman has the potential to be a starter in this league, but the Patriots are taking a bit of a risk after drafting him super early.
“Picking Cole Strange, a decent prospect from Tennessee-Chattanooga, 29th overall was a naïve move by Bill Belichick,” King wrote. “There was no indication he’d have gotten picked before New England’s next pick at 54; even if he was picked before then, so what?”
Belichick has always been seen as one of the best talent evaluators in the NFL, but even he can mess up at times.
We won’t know if he’s screwed up until Strange takes the field. We’ll have to see how he fares playing a full season up in Foxborough.
