Rookie tight end will be a starter
The NFL announced the Pro Bowl rosters for the 2024 season and the Las Vegas Raiders’ nominations are tight end Brock Bowers and defensive end Maxx Crosby.
Bowers was named the AFC’s starting tight end, earning the honors over Travis Kelce of the Kansas City who the rookie models his game after. That doesn’t come as much of a surprise since the Georgia product leads all tight ends in receptions (108) and receiving yards (1,144) heading into the final week of the regular season. He also logged four touchdowns and broke several records, including one that stood for over 60 years.
Crosby racked up 7.5 sacks and 17 TFL in 12 games this season before an ankle injury forced him to go on injured reserve and cut his season short. The six-year pro was selected as a backup but, presumptively, he won’t participate in the Pro Bowl games due to the injury. Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson are the AFC’s starting defensive ends as those two are tied for the league lead with 14 sacks this season.
This is Bowers’ first Pro Bowl nomination in his first season while Crosby’s streak is now up to four consecutive selections, meaning he’s been an All-Star for two-thirds of his career.
The NFL adopted a new format for the All-Star event a few years ago, including a skills challenge. That will be held on Thursday, January 30, and won’t be available for the public to attend but will be televised on ESPN from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. PST. The Pro Bowl flag football game is at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida on Sunday, February 2 from 12:00 p.m. to 3 p.m. and will air on ABC/ESPN’s family of networks and streaming services.
