Tre’von Moehrig, Carolina Panthers, Agree to Contract
The Las Vegas Raiders had a season to forget, but that didn’t stop Tre’Von Moehig from having another strong season. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the safety finished his season with two interceptions, 10 passes defended, one sack, 104 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, three quarterback hits, and a 67.5 PFF grade, the 37th-best mark out of 98 eligible players. Despite his efforts, the Raiders missed the playoffs and fired head coach Antonio Pierce following the season.
Tre’Von Moehrig originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Selected by the Las Vegas Raiders, the TCU product immediately made an impact on his defense. Starting in all 17 games, the rookie finished his inaugural season with one interception, six passes defended, 55 tackles, and a 71.0 PFF grade. Led by head coach Jon Gruden and interim head coach Rich Bisaccia, the Raiders made the playoffs but narrowly lost to the eventual AFC Champion Cincinnati Bengals.
Josh McDaniels took over in 2022 and Moehrig struggled to adapt to his scheme. Appearing in 15 games while making 13 starts, the second-year pro finished his season with no interceptions, five passes defended, 55 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and a 54.1 PFF grade as the team missed the playoffs and collapsed down the stretch. Vegas fired McDaniels midway through the 2023 season, and Moehrig returned to his rookie form in his absence. Starting all 17 games, the second-round pick recorded three interceptions, eight passes defended, two sacks, 83 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and two quarterback hits.
Since signing his rookie contract, Tre’von Moehrig has appeared in 66 games while making 64 starts. While on the field, the TUC product has recorded six interceptions, 29 passes defended, eight tackles-for-loss, and five quarterback hits.
