Mayor Eric Adams is reportedly set to make a long-awaited decision on unvaccinated athletes in New York City.
According to reports from Sally Goldenberg of Politico, Adams is poised to lift the vaccine mandate for performers and athletes at New York City venues with an announcement on Thursday.
Under the current rules, unvaccinated athletes — most notably Nets superstar Kyrie Irving — are unable to perform in private-sector venues like Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Queens’ City Field and the Bronx’s Yankees Stadium. Since retaking the court midway through the 2021-22 NBA season, Irving has only be allowed to play in away games for the Nets.

Tomorrow’s announcement is expected to lift the vaccine mandate before the start of the 2022 MLB season. With this decision, Irving will be able to retake the court in Brooklyn ahead of what could be a title-contending playoff run for the Nets.
According to reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Jeff Passan, Irving could be back on the court as soon as next week.
The Yankees’ home opener is set for April 7 and the Mets’ is set for April 15. The NBA play-in tournament — which will include the No. 8-seed Nets — is set for April 12.
