The Cleveland Browns were able to clear a big chunk of cap space on Saturday.
According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, “The Browns restructured WR Amari Cooper’s contract, converting most of his $20 million base salary into a signing bonus, adding two void years and saving over $15M on the 2022 salary cap.”

After adding Deshaun Watson via trade, Cleveland is set to pay out $66 million in cash to Watson and Cooper. However, the pair will only count as about $15 million combined on the cap.
The Browns also are reportedly set to sign veteran QB Jacoby Brissett as they continue to distance themselves from former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield.

There will be some new faces in Cleveland come this fall. But the Browns are set to remain one of the most talented rosters in the AFC North.
It’s not clear whether or not Watson will still face suspension from the league in the upcoming season, although the Brissett move should get that them through that.
For now, it looks like the Browns will be shopping Baker Mayfield as that relationship appears severed.
