Tampa Bay wide receiver was connected to the Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders were connected to wide receiver Chris Godwin, who enter the legal tampering period on Monday, as the top player available at the position.
However, Godwin is staying with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to NFL Media, Godwin signed a three-year, $66 million deal to stay in Tampa Bay with $45 million in guaranteed money.
The Raiders’ interest in Godwin made sense. He was in Tampa Bay with new Las Vegas general manager John Spytek and he played with and is close with Raiders’ part owner Tom Brady. Plus, the Raiders are looking for a new No.1 wide receiver to pair with Jakobi Myers.
After Godwin, it’s not considered a strong wide receiver class with many aging players available. The Raiders reportedly had interest in trading for DK Metcalf, but he was dealt to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Former Raiders’ No. 1 wide receiver Davante Adams signed with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.
While they may not be No.1 receivers, veterans Keenan Allen and Tyler Lockett have ties to the Raiders staff and could make sense. Also, the team could draft a receiver early.
