Community pulse: Dealing with more disappointment

Fans comes to terms with a horrible start

Our Tuesday Community Question weekly series is a flexible resource for all of us.

Sometimes, it serves as a time machine to remember the great history of the Raiders franchise. Sometimes, it allows us to learn more about why everyone in this community is a Raiders fans. Sometimes, like this, it allows everyone to vent and this is a venting time for the Raider Nation.

This week, our Tuesday Community Question was did fans see this coming? this, of course, is a 2-7 record to begin the first full season under Antonio Pierce

The rough start was been accompanied by horrible quarterback play, major injuries, a trade of a star and coaching firing. It’s been ugly and you vented accordingly.

SnB Stop the Run

Once they decided on Gardner Minshew as the quarterback, I felt our slim chances went to none.

Injuries hurt the team for sure. Losing Koonce was devastating as was Wilkins. Had we had them both, the defense might have saved them for a couple of those games (Panthers, Broncos and Chiefs (believe it or not)). Really disappointing that Tyree Wilson isn’t playing to a first or second round grade.

But Minshew is very limited and inaccurate. I thought O’Connell had a chance to develop into a good passer from the pocket. At least those who want to tank will get what they want.

As I recall, I said we’d start shaky and end strong. I am admittedly much less confident in the “ending strong” portion, but I thoroughly nailed the “shaky start” portion. 🙂

I had the Raiders at 10-7 with a wild card round win. Wow did I drink the Kool aid. Really thought that AP would get this ship going in the right direction but have to say at this point it was a blind assumption. Now he is bringing in another recycled coach from the 90’s who hasn’t done shit since then. Sad to say but think the Raiders are headed for a complete and total rebuild, but then again it seems like they have been doing that for the past 40 years, give of take a few off years where they actually competed.

Made my first bet of my life on the Raiders over win total and well kiss that cash good bye. Living in the kingdumb area just makes it that much harder to take as I hear about it every damn time I go hang with the guys. Sad part is I at this point see no light at the end of the tunnel where the team actually becomes competitive.

Mark must hire a President of Football Operations to run the between the lines stuff or this team will continue to dwell at the bottom of the barrel. So sad for a once great Franchise!

It is sad.

There’s nowhere to go but up. Though, we might linger near the bottom for minute. There are some pivotal decisions coming up here in the near future, and Telesco’s vision, plus his willingness to take risks for that vision, are going to set us on a multi-year path. Kind of scary and exhilarating at the same time.

I also took the over on win total this year which was my first time doing this kind of bet. Now I wish I took the cash out when it was available after the Ravens win. Though I’d lose $25 it’s better than losing it all which is what they’re heading for now.

Once it was announced that the Raiders signed Getsy all of Raider Nation knew this would end just like the Josh McDummy signing did. Now who gets the blame for leading the league in missed tackles and near the bottom of forced TO’s?

Been happening for over 2 decades, I don’t know how this could be viewed as some kind of surprise….imploding in people’s faces has become the new standard for Davis and this organization

This specific mess? No. But once it was clear that neither GM or AOC was a starting-quality QB coming out of preseason and that the OL had regressed under Getsy, something like this had to happen if nothing else changed.

No. I was optimistic that there would be progress despite the lack of a star QB in FA or the draft.

The D finished strongly last year and adding Wilkins in FA was a good get. The draft helped depth on the D with some potential depth pieces in the secondary and resigning Adam Butler & Jenkins did the same for the line. The Koonce injury was a blow but shouldn’t have derailed the entire defense. The Wilkins injury had more of an impact on the D than Koonce for me….

On offense, the additions to the line in the draft had promise. I wasn’t overly impressed with our FA activity on the line but getting a weapon like Bowers should have helped…

So what the hell happened? Bad coaching on the O in my opinion. The O doesn’t seem to have been developed to fit the talents of the players we do have.

Zamir White is a shadow of the player that ended last season. Adams checked out, Minshew has made bizarre choices and throws. The whole O (except Bowers) has been a disaster when all it needed to do was be average or competent.

A terrible waste of an opportunity to move forward – everything undermined by the awful offensive coaching and play-calling.

Time to clear the slate and start building for next year…
