Star pass-rusher could be available
One of the biggest names changing teams in the NFL this offseason could be superstar defensive end Myles Garrett, who has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns.
Cleveland doesn’t want to trade him, but if the price is right, the star pass-rusher could get his wish.
Clearly, all of the other 31 teams would love to get their hands on Garrett, but he will be costly.
The Las Vegas Raiders could pair Garrett with star pass rusher Maxx Crosby. The Raiders have the salary-cap room to fit in Garrett, but they have other needs and giving several premium draft picks may not make great sense for Las Vegas.
Perhaps he could land in the AFC West though as the other three teams, all coming off postseason appearances, could look at trying to add Garrett and he’d probably be pleased to join any of them. Here’s a look if would fit in:
Denver Broncos:
The Broncos already have a strong defense and they have a decent amount of cap rom. They recovered from the Russell Wilson trade quicker than expected. So, they may not want to give up a bunch of top picks again for one player and they may would rather to spread out the final pieces to the roster. So, I’m not sure the Broncos could be considered a top destination for Garrett.
Kansas City Chiefs:
You can never put anything past Kansas City general manager Brett Veach. The Chiefs may lose some key players on defense in free agency, linebacker Nick Bolton and safety Justin Reid. So, they could look to add another premier defensive player. They can afford to give up picks as well. I’m not sure if the Chiefs could be considered a favorite to land Garrett, but could you imagine Garrett playing next to Chris Jones?
Los Angeles Chargers:
As of now, I’d count the Chargers as the best bet in the division to being able to strike a deal for Garrett. He could be a major difference maker in making Jim Harbaugh’s team a legitimate Super Bowl contender. The Chargers have $64 million in salary-cap room and could let pass-rusher Khalil Mack walk and replaced him with Garrett. The Chargers would probably feel comfortable giving up what it would take in trade compensation to get Garrett. Surely, he would be interested in playing in Los Angeles for a rising organization.
