The Las Vegas Raiders’ quarterback situation is the biggest question mark as training camp approaches as head coach Antonio Pierce has two options.
Aidan O’Connell is the incumbent after he took over for Jimmy Garoppolo midway through the 2023 season when Pierce benched him, but the Raiders also signed Gardner Minshew to a two-year deal in free agency. Minshew brings much more starting experience but has typically been relegated to a backup position throughout his career.
O’Connell and Minshew are expected to battle for the starting gig during the summer, and it’s anyone’s guess who will ultimately win out. Minshew was considered to be the favorite because of his track record, but O’Connell reportedly held his own during OTAs.
Whoever ends up starting, they’ll need to do a better job of getting the football to Davante Adams who was visibly frustrated on the field with the quarterback play last season. In regards to Las Vegas’ situation at the position, Adams didn’t hesitate when the possibility of Tom Brady got brought up in an appearance on Club Shay Shay, as transcribed by Nick Meyer of Athlon Sports:
“Hell yes,” Adams said, answering Sharpe’s question of whether he would take the former Patriots and Buccaneers quarterback on the Raiders or not before he was able to officially ask it.
Adams doubled down on his stance and said that he didn’t care how old Brady is:
“Hey, when you said Tom Brady, I knew what you were saying, ‘Let me see what he gonna say and he gonna talk about how old he is,” Adams continued.
“I don’t care.”
There were murmurs earlier in the offseason that Brady could come back for a third time, but he publicly said he was done playing and would focus on his upcoming broadcasting stint with Fox. He is also currently in the process of trying to buy a minority stake in the Raiders, but that situation has been put on pause due to multiple issues.
While Brady playing for the silver and black is likely just a dream, it’s fun to think about what Adams could’ve done with the future NFL Hall of Famer under center.
Raiders’ Davante Adams’ agents shut down trade rumors
Adams’ happiness in Las Vegas has come into question the past year after all the drama and losing that he’s experienced. Adams has been the subject of trade rumors, but his agents came out and shut down any idea that their client is on the trading block.
