Deion Sanders is a fan of NIL, but he believes it’s gotten a bit ridiculous in college sports over the last year.
The Jackson State head coach spoke about it with Carl Reed of 247Sports and how it’s becoming like free agency in the NFL.
“It’s becoming free agency, and if you don’t have it, you won’t be able to compete,” Sanders said. “It’s just another way to keep the schools that don’t have the proper funding down. First of all, I’m not giving a kid anything like that. I want you to focus on the NFL, not the NIL.”

Sanders was asked about it after rumors surfaced that Pittsburgh Panthers receiver Jordan Addison has a $2 million offer for a NIL deal from USC. He’s considering transferring to the school but hasn’t made a final decision yet.
The college football world mostly agrees with Sanders on this.

Corruption is rearing its ugly head with NIL…This has to be the worst thing to happen to College Sports in memory…If a kid gets an endorsement deal but does not honor his full ride for four years, then he should be made to pay back part of his scholarship. https://t.co/MpHAibhyO3

Just need some guidance in their portal & NIL news. https://t.co/V6IqIIOcNb

I agree & disagree with this. I agree with the notion you should take the best offer AND prepare for the next level of life no matter what age. But I disagree with the notion of “getting 2M & ain’t done nothing yet” that’s capitalism, that’s how markets work. Y’all gotta adjust. https://t.co/VXwWqolPfW

If the transfer portal stays in its current state, NIL deals are going to get even more frequent.
