Quarterback Deshaun Watson had his introductory press conference with the Cleveland Browns today and it didn’t take long for him to address the question on everyone’s’ minds: The assault allegations from 22 different women.
Watson was surprisingly direct when asked to give an update on his legal situation. Rather than ignore the question or refer questions to his lawyer, he said he understood the seriousness of the situation and denied the allegations.
“I understand the seriousness of the allegations. I’ve never assault a single woman. I’ve never disrespected any woman,” Watson said.
The newly-minted Browns quarterback asserted later that he has never done any of the things alleged against him. ““I’ve never done the things people are alleging,” he said.

Deshaun Watson was a three-time Pro Bowler in his first four seasons with the Houston Texans. He led the NFL in passing yards in 2020 and went 28-25 as a starter with two playoff trips.
But a falling out with ownership led him to not play for the Texans in 2021. Though the charges against him may have contributed to his decision to stay off the field, he has yet to be punished by the NFL for any violations of the personal conduct policy.
That lingering threat of a suspension didn’t stop the Browns from trading an arm and a leg to bring him into the fold though.
It may be months or even years before there’s a final resolution to the lawsuits against Watson. But the Browns appear content with the potential outcomes.
