Veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford isn’t leaving Los Angeles anytime soon.
Stafford and the Rams have agreed to a contract extension. The three-year extension is worth up to $160 million and will pay him $43 million per year. $135 million of the contract is guaranteed.
Most notably, Stafford reportedly took less money than he could have to help the Rams’ salary cap in coming years.
The Super Bowl-winning quarterback will be a Ram for the next three seasons.
More specifics on Matthew Stafford’s extension: It’s effectively a 3-year extension worth $129M — $43M a year. There are added years for cap purposes. But $43M over the next 3 of the deal. And Stafford took less than he could’ve to help build on a Super Bowl-caliber team. https://t.co/ZTI3EWtgF0

The sky is the limit for Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams. The NFC as a whole took a few steps back this offseason. It’s for the taking.
The NFC West, meanwhile, also weakened. Seattle has entered full rebuild mode after trading Russell Wilson. The Cardinals are in a similar position as they were last year. The real wildcard is the 49ers, who are expected to hand the reins to Trey Lance.
