Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts decided to take the MLB spotlight for himself today by guaranteeing a World Series win this year.
During a radio interview on Friday, Roberts did his best Joe Namath impression, stating point blank that the Dodgers will win the World Series. He even challenged doubters to “put it on record” to boot.
“We’re winning the World Series this year. Put it on record… That’s our focus. That’s our goal,” Roberts said.
The Dodgers head into the 2022 MLB season with the top odds of winning the World Series at +450. Under Roberts’ leadership, the Dodgers have reached the World Series three times in the last five years, winning it all in 2020.
MLB fans are impressed by his boldness, but not entirely surprised given what heavy favorites they are:

Best lineup money can buy.. I mean how could it not be the expectation? https://t.co/xUgM6pXApZ

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the highest payroll in Major League Baseball heading into 2022. They’ve made the playoffs nine straight years and haven’t had a losing season since 2010.
It’s more than understandable that Dave Roberts, the Dodgers and all of their fans are confident that they’ll win it all in 2022.
The more head-scratching decision is to make such a proclamation in March. There’s 100,000 different things that can go wrong before a season even starts that can derail their World Series dreams between now and autumn.
A more spiritual person might consider what Roberts said to be “tempting fate.” More realistically, he’s putting undue pressure on the team that will now last for the entire season.
Will the Dodgers win the World Series anyway?
