Everyone seems to think that one team had the worst – or, at least, most puzzling – performance in the NFL Draft this year.
The New England Patriots made a couple of pretty puzzling selections this year, especially at the top of the NFL Draft.
New England selected offensive lineman Cole Strange in the first round and wide receiver Tyquan Thornton in the second round.
Fans were pretty puzzled by the moves, as both Strange and Thornton were ranked much lower on everyone’s draft boards.

If Belichick drafts a kid higher than “the experts” say, he reached. (McCourty, Dugger, Strange)
If a player goes later than they should, “they fell in Bill’s lap.” (Mac, Barmore)
When they draft a kid in the 4th-7th or sign any UDFA’s, well “they got lucky.”

We wanted to understand why the Patriots are so bad at drafting, so we talked to three 20-something draft expert bloggers, who feel personally offended that Bill Belichick does not pick the players they have spent hours watching on YouTube and ranking in spreadsheets.

Belichick, of course, surely doesn’t care about anyone else’s rankings.
“It’s hard to predict what Coach Belichick is going to do … but I can tell you one thing: He is not going to draft a quarterback in the first round.” — owner Robert Kraft, with a humorous touch, at the Patriots season-ticket member draft party. pic.twitter.com/vOrNe8myLq

Perhaps the Patriots’ picks will surprise moving forward.
