On Monday, three days after he was released by the Cleveland Browns, tight end Austin Hooper agreed to a contract with the Tennessee Titans.
When asked about his new NFL opportunity, Hooper praised the Titans’ organization, and may have taken a subtle jab at his former team.
“I just want an opportunity to compete and just be part of a good locker room on a good team,” Hooper said, via Tom Withers of the Associated Press. “This was an opportunity that was presented, and it was a no-brainer for me. I mean just good culture and good team.”

Now, Hooper was cut by the Browns, so you have to take his words with a grain of salt, if he even intended them as a diss.
The 27-year-old did admit though today that he was at times frustrated with his role in Cleveland. Hooper signed a four-year, $42 million contract two years ago but he only registered 84 receptions in 29 games with the Browns while splitting time with David Njoku and Harrison Bryant.
“There’s definitely some frustration there,” Hooper said. “I’ve been wondering why they gave me the deal and wasn’t really involved that much. At the end of the day, I’ve always been the type of player to accept the role I’ve been asked to do.”
Prior to arriving in Cleveland, Hooper made back-to-back Pro Bowls with the Atlanta Falcons in 2018 and 2019. The Titans are hoping he can regain that form in Nashville.
