Derek Carr’s former GM will be joining him in New Orleans to presumably try to build around the quarterback as he enters his second season with the Saints.
Sources tell @CBSSports former Raiders GM Dave Ziegler is joining the New Orleans Saints in an advisory role through the 2024 NFL draft. A 3x Super Bowl champ in personnel, Ziegler will assist the Saints over the next 2 months.

This time a year ago, Dave Ziegler was notifying Carr that he would be released by the Raiders after nine seasons. That release, of course, was following Carr refusing several of the team’s attempts to trade him, including to the Saints, and forcing them to cut him instead.
Ziegler came to the Raiders along with Josh McDaniels and the two were fired midway through their second season in charge of the Raiders. The first season with Carr at QB, the second with Jimmy Garoppolo. The overall record. They got a combined 9-12 record out of the two quarterbacks.
In Ziegler’s two drafts with the Raiders, he managed to add just two full time starters — third round guard Dylan Parham and second round tight end Michael Mayer. But, to be fair, he had no first and second round picks in 2023 after the trade to acquire Carr’s former Fresno State teammate Davante Adams.
