New York Jets dump Davante Adams
The 2025 NFL offseason was destined to be a time of reckoning for Davante Adams’ contract he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders three years after their blockbuster trade for him.
Yet, the 2025 contract decision ended up being made by the New York Jets as they released the No. 1 wide receiver Tuesday, not even five months after trading a third-round pick for him to the Raiders.

Adams’ release was not a shock at all, especially after the Jets decided to part ways with his close friend, quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Adams was due to make more than $36 million this year as part of his massive deal he signed with the Raiders.
Adams ended up playing 11 games for the Jets. He had 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns for New York. Adams, 32, should be popular as a free agent. He can sign with a team at any time.
Ending an unexpected in-season drama, the Raiders traded Adams to the Jets on October 15.
On October 1, it was reported that the Raiders’ brass was finally ready to listen to trade offers for Adams and the player in turn told the team he would prefer to be traded.
The Raiders acquired Adams from the Green Bay Packers in March 2022 in a blockbuster trade in which the Raiders sent out first and second-round picks. The Raiders then gave Adams a massive, five-year, $140 million deal with $65.7 million in guaranteed money. It made him the richest wide receiver in the league at the time.
Adams played 37 games for the Raiders. He had 221 catches for 2,869 yards and 23 touchdowns in what turns out to be a disappointing and short stint with the team.
Adams reworked his deal with the Jets and the receiver and the Jets will discuss his future in the offseason.
