The 2022 Mexico Open turned out to be another day at the office for Jon Rahm as he claimed victory and some much-needed momentum heading into the PGA Championship later this month.
Rahm notched his seventh career PGA Tour victory at Tour’s inaugural Mexico Open today. His 267 (17-under) allowed him to claim a one-stroke victory over Tony Finau, Kurt Kitayama and Brandon Wu.
The win was Rahm’s first on the PGA Tour since his thrilling win at the U.S. Open last year to claim his first major. His 27th-place finish at the Masters last month was his worst finish at any major since 2019.
Golf fans everywhere were ready to congratulate Rahm on his big win. Everyone seems to be looking forward to seeing how he performs over the rest of the season:

The 2021 PGA Tour season saw Jon Rahm finish as the top earner on the tour. Of his 22 starts, he made the cut in 21 of them with 18 top-25 finishes, 15 top-10 finishes, two 3rds, two 2nds and the aforementioned U.S. Open win.
Rahm had equal success on the European Tour, finishing third.
But Rahm is going to have a hard time retaining that title with the surge Scottie Scheffler is on this year. Scheffler already has four wins including the Masters.
It would be fun to see Rahm and Scheffler go head-to-head with a major on the line. We very well might in three weeks at the PGA Championship in Tulsa.
