After two seasons in Las Vegas backing up Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota is on his way to Atlanta for the opportunity to be a starter again.
Mariota signed a two-year contract with the Falcons this afternoon, where he’s in line to replace franchise legend Matt Ryan. Ryan was traded to the Indianapolis Colts earlier today.
After the signing was announced, Carr took to Twitter to congratulate his former teammate.
“Congrats bro! ATL is getting one of the greatest humans on the planet!” he wrote.

Mariota played in 11 games for the Raiders over the last two seasons. In 2020, his lone appearance came in relief of Carr against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15.
Mariota impressed off the bench against LA, throwing for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception and adding another 88 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
In 2021, Mariota was used mostly as a short-yardage runner, carrying the ball 13 times for 87 yards and a touchdown in 10 games. He also completed 1-of-2 passes for four yards.
