Kentucky wouldn’t dare move on from a head coach who’s been to four Final Fours and won a national championship, right? Believe it or not, there are actual Wildcats fans who believe the program should say goodbye to John Calipari.
The No. 2 seed Kentucky Wildcats were upset by No. 15 seed St. Peter’s in the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Was it a disappointing end to the season? Absolutely. UK was a trendy pick to reach the Final Four.
Some fans have taken things a bit too far, though. There are some who believe Kentucky should fire Calipari and hire a new head coach.
In this absurd scenario, Kentucky would have to pay Coach Cal $52 million – yes, you read that right – to buyout the rest of his contract.
We had a caller ask today about Calipari’s buyout today on KSR Radio and I had the wrong amount
It is $52 million this year and decreases by a little over $6 million a year over the next 8 seasons

We’re going to go out on a limb here and say John Calipari is going to be Kentucky’s head coach next season. Shocking stuff, right?
The Wildcats aren’t going to fire one of the best coaches in basketball. Who would they even hire to replace him?
Sure, losing in upset fashion in the First Round of the tourney is always tough. But that never warrants firing one of the best coaches in basketball.
