The first three rounds of the 2022 NFL draft are officially in the books, but there is still plenty of talent left on the board.
The third round of this year’s draft finally saw a “run” on quarterbacks with three being selected in the third round. However, there is still one who is, somewhat surprisingly, still there.
After the conclusion of Day 2 of the draft, veteran ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. shared the top-six remaining options on his Big Board. Among them is former North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell.
- Perrion Winfrey, DT, Oklahoma
- Amare Barno, OLB, Virginia Tech
- Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina
- Calvin Austin III, WR, Memphis
- Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State
- Daniel Faalele, OT, Minnesota
Here’s the tweet from the man himself.
Best available prospects headed into Day 3:
55. Perrion Winfrey, DT, Oklahoma
60. Amare Barno, OLB, Virginia Tech
68. Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina
75. Calvin Austin III, WR, Memphis
81. Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State
82. Daniel Faalele, OT, Minnesota— Mel Kiper Jr. (@MelKiperESPN) April 30, 2022
Winfrey was seen as a potential early pick in the second round. However, NFL teams seem content to wait on the Sooners star defensive lineman.
As for Howell, the former Tar Heels quarterback was also seen as a Day 2 prospect, with some believing he could even sneak in the late first round. As the quarterbacks started to come off the board, though, Howell was just waiting to hear his name called.
He’ll likely hear his name called on Saturday afternoon, though, when the fourth round kicks off at 12:00 p.m. ET.
Where will all six players land?
