New Las Vegas coach filling assistant staff
New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll is filling his coaching staff.
Let’s look at where it stands as of now:
Retained from previous staff: Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, special teams coach Tom McMahon, defensive line coach/run game coordinator Rob Leonard.
Hires who previously worked with Carroll: John Glenn (linebackers), Brennan Carroll (offensive line), Greg Olson (quarterbacks), Matt Capurro (coaching operations).
Outside hires: Chip Kelly (offensive coordinator), Chris Beatty (wide receivers), Deland McCullough (running backs), Joe Woods (defensive pass-game coordinator), Beyah Rasool (defensive assistant).
Among those not retained from previous staff: Mike Caldwell (linebackers), Edgar Bennett (wide receivers), Carnell Williams (running backs), Ricky Manning Jr. (cornerbacks), Fred Walker (assistant quarterbacks).
New hires who have been with the Raiders in the past: Olson, Woods, Capurro.
Attempt to interview blocked: Sanjay Lal (Los Angeles Chargers’ wide receivers coach).
Rumored to join staff: Nate Carroll (offensive assistant), Marcus Robertson (secondary).
Roles to fill: Secondary, tight ends, perhaps senior offensive position, various assistant position/quality control positions.
Conclusion: Most of the staff is filed. For the most part, this seems like a strong, experienced staff under Carroll, who has 18 years of head-coaching experience. The staff is highlighted by Graham, Kelly and Woods. It’s a good start so far.
