Former Denver executive joins Raiders’ front office
The Las Vegas Raiders have Mark Thewes to their front office the senior vice president of Football Operations and Strategy, according to a report by NFL Media.
Let’s get to know Thewes better:
Last job:
He was with the Denver Broncos for the past 16 years, most recently as the Vice President of Football Operations and Compliance.
What will be his role?
Thewes’ role is expected to be in the administration and operations side of the front office. Pete Carroll brought in Matt Capurro, who had worked both for the Raiders and Carroll in the past, to help run the operations of the coaching staff. Thewes’ hiring is somewhat comparable for the front office. He is not expected to be a personnel decision maker. Still, he wear many hats in Denver, including helping with game management on game days and he stuck around through several regimes and an ownership change
Raiders ties:
Thewes was in Denver with new Las Vegas general manager John Spytek.
Irony:
Thewes got his big break in the NFL when Josh McDaniels hired him when he became the Broncos head coach in 2009. They were high school buddies in Canton Ohio. Thewes remained with the Broncos long past McDaniels did. Now, Thewes joins another of McDaniels’ former teams.
Why the Raiders hired him:
Clearly, Spytek thinks his former colleague can fill a valuable role in the daily operations of the franchise.
