A big contract may be coming for free-agent safety
The Las Vegas Raiders have several pending free agent to consider re-signing in the next couple of months.
One of those players is safety Tre’von Moehrig. The second-round pick in 2021 has had his up-and-downs, but he’s mostly been good and he is coming off of a solid 2024 season in an otherwise disappointing season in Las Vegas.
He will likely be popular in free agency and he could get a nice contract. The Raiders are projected to have among the most salary-cap in the NFL in 2025 and should be able to keep Moehrig and other free agents if they wish.
The key is how much the Raiders want to spend on Moehrig. The Arizona Cardinals recently extended star safety Budda Baker with a three-year, $54 million deal. In 2024, the 10th highest safety contract was an average of $12 million a deal and the price will go up because this is a strong safety class in free agency.
NFL.com think Moehrig will get in the $12 million range.
In addition to Moehrig and injured Raider Marcus Epps, the free-agent class at the position could include Jevon Holland of the Miami Dolphins, Camryn Bynum (Minnesota Vikings), Talanoa Hufanga (San Francisco 49ers) and Andre Cisco (Jacksonville Jaguars).
So, there will be choices for the Raiders and other teams in the free-agent market. Do you think Las Vegas should spend big on Moehrig to keep him?
