Lessons must be learned
The Las Vegas Raiders players and fans wanted Antonio Pierce back after he ended last season as the interim coach.
Davis needs to learn a lesson from the short, unsuccessful stint with Pierce. He shouldn’t listen to players and fan sentiment when it comes to an important move like a coaching hire shouldn’t matter.
Frankly, Raiders’ history shouldn’t be a factor.
It was cute when Davis said former New England Patriot Josh McDaniels admitted The Tuck Rule was a Tom Brady fumble and Pierce really tried to appeal to the fan base with the “Raaaiiiiidddeerrrrrssssss” chants and saying he grew up watching the team while he was raised in Compton.
But, none that stuff really matters.
Davis must find a game with experience, proven ability, game-management skills and a wide net of potential staff members.
That’s the stuff that should matter the most above anything else.
The coaching matters. The ability to appeal to players and fans shouldn’t matter. If Davis hires the right guy, players and fans will be happy in the long run and new Raiders’ history will be made.
