Raiders want to interview Chiefs’ defensive coordinator
The Las Vegas Raiders have started to request interviews for the coaching opening left by the firing of Antonio Pierce. One of the coaches they’ve requested to talk to is Steve Spagnuolo.
Let’s get to know him some more:
Current job:
He is the defensive coordinator of the Kanas City Chiefs, a position he has held since 2019.
Age:
65.
Coaching experience:
Spagnuolo has been in the NFL since 1999. He’s been a defensive coordinator for 12 seasons. He has won four Super Bowl rings as a defensive coordinator. He was the head coach of the St. Louis Rams from 2009-11.
Other interest:
The New York Jets also have requested to interview Spagnuolo.
Why the Raiders are interested:
His track record is terrific and Raiders’ part owner Tom Brady is a big fan. Spagnuolo was famous for giving Brady fits as the New York Giants defensive coordinator. Also, hiring him away from division foe Kansas City would hurt the Chiefs.
Irony:
Spagnuolo is very close with Pierce and they won a Super Bowl together with the Giants as a coach and player.
