Special teams coach coming back on Pete Carroll’s new staff
New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has brought some holders from the 2024 staff of the fired Antonio Pierce to work on his coaching staff.
One of those coaches is special teams coach Tom McMahon.
This will be the third head coach that McMahon, 55, will assist in Las Vegas. He was hired by Josh McDaniels in 2022 and Pierce retained him in 2024. McMahon has been an NFL special teams coach since 2009.
The Raiders’ special teams units had some issues in 2024 with two blocked punts (which was tied for the most in the league) and some lackluster overall play in the return and coverage units, but it features standout punter A.J. Cole and kicker Daniel Carlson.
We asked our community members if they liked that Carroll has retained McMahon.
In a poll with 604 votes cast, 371 voters (61 percent) welcomed back McMahon, while 233 votes (39 percent) thought a chance was in order.
Thanks to all who participated.
