In a lost season for the Raiders, they have also watched as a great many of their best defenders have been lost for the season. And Saturday came the news that the team will now be without their best defender for the final four games.
Defensive end Maxx Crosby had been dealing with a serious ankle injury most of the season. It had caused him to miss his first ever game early in the season, and though he return the following week, he was still dealing with it. And this week, he made the decision to shut it down and have surgery.
“As much as this pains me to write, I will not be playing the rest of the season,” Crosby wrote in a post on instagram. “Second time this year getting rolled up on the same ankle and now it will require surgery.”

Crosby said the injury happened in the game in Tampa last Sunday. No one thought much of it when he missed practice this week, making it a surprise when he was ruled OUT for the Monday night game vs the Falcons. A short time later, Crosby made the announcement his season was over.
“I will get this surgery & be on a war path for greatness everyday and be back the best version of myself,” Crosby added.
Getting the surgery done now instead of waiting until after the season will help him jumpstart his recovery to return to the team in time for offseason activities.
