Las Vegas wants a top option at wide receiver
The Las Vegas Raiders reportedly went into free agency with getting a No. 1 wide receiver as a top priority.
As we sit on the second day of free agency, the Raiders have yet to address the position and, frankly, there aren’t many obvious top options on the market.
The Raiders were reportedly interested in trading for DK Metcalf from Seattle (where he played for new Las Vegas coach Pete Carroll) but he was sent to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Raiders were also reportedly interested in Tampa Bay’s Chris Godwin (he was there with new Raiders general manager John Spytek and part owner Tom Brady), but he remained with the Buccaneers.
It’s never been considered a top class, anyway.
Now, it’s fairly weak with some big-named players, who appear to be on the back nine of their careers.
Among the receivers available include former Raiders’ first-round pick Amari Cooper, Stefon Diggs, DeAndre Hopkins, Keenan Allen and Tyler Lockett.
UPDATE: Hopkins has agreed to terms with Baltimore.
Allen and Lockett have ties to the Raiders’ new staff.
Besides Godwin, Metcalf and former Raiders’ star Davante Adams, who signed with the Los Angeles Rams, the top of the receiver market has been slow to develop.
So, while the Raiders have choices, they might be able to find a veteran on a reasonable deal, even though they may not fill their need for a true No. 1 receiver.
