Since coming to the Las Vegas Raiders via trade, Davante Adams hasn’t experienced as much winning as he probably hoped.
Instead, Adams has had to endure several on and off-the-field events that previously sapped the Raiders of any optimism going forward. However, that all changed when owner Mark Davis fired former head coach Josh McDaniels and elevated Antonio Pierce to interim head coach.
Pierce led Las Vegas to a winning record down the stretch of the 2023 season and was rewarded the head coaching position as a result.
The new Raiders head coach won over the locker room, including Adams who, in an appearance on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, expressed how happy he is to have Pierce leading Las Vegas via Nick Shook of Around The NFL:
“I wouldn’t be feeling as good as I do now,” Adams said. “That’s for sure. He’s the type of guy that I really enjoy speaking to, working with, so I basically tried to do everything that I could to make it to where the front office didn’t have any other choice.”
Adams also revealed that he urged Davis to keep Pierce in the role:
“I talked to Mark Davis,” Adams explained. “We had dinners and sat down and I expressed to him how much it meant to me and how much it meant to the rest of the team. The other part of it is I really didn’t even need to do all that, I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t leave any stone unturned. I just wanted to approach it and say, ‘Hey, I’m fully stamping this.’
“The proof is in the pudding. You see the difference when we made the change. How the players feel. How hard they played. The results you got on the field. Everything was a million times better, so I was really just trying to put the icing on the cake with the help of some other players.
Fortunately for Adams and the rest of the locker room, they got their wish and now will look to get the Silver and Black back on track with Pierce at the helm.
Davante Adams loves Aidan O’Connell as Raiders’ starting quarterback
Pierce’s first major decision as head coach will be who he picks to be the team’s starting quarterback. Adams might have some influence here, too, as he reportedly loves Aidan O’Connell acting as the starter over Gardner Minshew.
