After somehow losing to the Chicago Bears in Week 7, the Las Vegas Raiders fanbase is livid and looking for some change in the organization.
Although the Raiders were without Jimmy Garoppolo, the Bears were also trotting out a backup quarterback in Tyson Bagent, who carved up their defense. The loss snapped Las Vegas’ modest two-game win streak and has them staring down some hard truths about their roster.
Besides the players, the fans have also been calling for Mark Davis to fire Josh McDaniels who has yet to prove that he’s the right man for the job. McDaniels has had the team competitive during some weeks but then has them looking ill-prepared, as people saw against Chicago.
Aside from the fans, former Raiders like Warren Sapp have taken notice of the team’s struggles and had some harsh words for McDaniels via The Ballast.
“We got the wrong guy at the helm,” Sapp said. “We trying to implement something that is dead. The Patriot way is dead. Bill Belichick even knows it. The Patriot way is dead and Josh McDaniels is trying to recreate something that he doesn’t have the credentials for. He’s not Bill Belichick. We watched him do this in Denver when he drafted Tim Tebow and ran the Broncos into the ground. He’s going to do the same thing in Oakland. What did Maya Angelou say? When someone shows you who they are the first time, believe them. Josh McDaniels is not a good football coach.”
It does feel like McDaniels has been trying to follow in his mentor’s footsteps, though that approach hasn’t paid dividends as they still find themselves on the outside looking in of the playoff picture. Even before the season started, McDaniels was the betting favorite to be the first head coach fired, though so far, Davis has yet to insinuate that his job is on the line.
However, fans do have to wonder how many more losses the team has to suffer until ownership decides it’s time to move on from McDaniels. If Las Vegas falls flat against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, it could just be the tipping point for the franchise to finally make some changes.
