Pete Carroll has history with potential backup
Russell Wilson.
Geno Smith.
Wilson and Smith are being dot connected to the Raiders, of course, because they both played for the Seattle Seahawks under new Las Vegas coach Pete Carroll.
So, what about Drew Lock?
He, like Wilson and Smith, played under Carroll in Seattle as well. Lock is a free agent after playing last season for the New York Giants.
Now, let’s be real, a Lock pursuit wouldn’t be as a likely starter. If he were to sign in Las Vegas, Lock’s best-case scenario would to be able to compete with incumbent Aidan O’Connell in training camp.
But, frankly, the Raiders are looking for a better option than that scenario.
But Lock could interest the Raiders as a backup or even a third-stringer. Not only is Carroll in Las Vegas, but new Raiders quarterbacks coach Greg Olson was Lock’s position coach in 2023.
Lock, who will turn 29 during the 2025 season, has starter 28 games in the NFL with mixed results. He is likely not a true starting quarterback, but his familiarity to the staff could be beneficial for the team.
