Quarterback meeting with Rams today
The Matthew Stafford tour may be coming to an end, possibly as soon as Friday.
The Athletic reported Friday morning that Stafford and his current team, the Los Angeles Rams, are meeting at their facility Friday to hash out his future. The report states both the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants have discussed two-year contracts with $90-100 in guaranteed million.

The Rams gave Stafford permission to talk to other teams, while both sides kept the possibility of his remaining with the team. Now, both the Rams and Stafford know their contract perimeters. Also, Stafford can compare whether he’d rather stay with Los Angeles for a fifth straight season are if the 37-year-old will want to end his career with either the Raiders or the Giants.
If the Rams and Stafford can’t find common ground in their meeting, the Rams will then talk trade with the Raiders and the Rams. It’s not known if Stafford has a preference or if it would matter to the Rams. It has been speculated that he and is family may prefer living in Las Vegas rather than New York.
Wednesday, The Athletic reported the Rams were expected to increase their asking price because of the Raiders’ and Rams’ heavy interest. It had been reported that the Rams were seeking a first-round pick plus for Stafford, but teams were more interested in giving up a second-round pick plus for him. The Giants have the No. 3 overall draft pick and the Raiders have the No. 6 pick.
Tuesday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Raiders’ part owner Tom Brady is recruiting Stafford to Las Vegas by reaching out to his camp. Tuesday, both Raiders general manager John Spytek and coach Pete Carroll said Brady is involved in the team’s offseason plans.
Wednesday, NFL reporter Jordan Schulz reported that Stafford recently spent time with Brady at his Montana home as part of Brady’s attempted recruitment of Stafford. However, NFL Media said the meeting in Montana was unplanned and Brady wasn’t hosting Stafford. The NFL said there was no tampering on the Raiders’ part.
Both Spytek and Carroll declined to address the Stafford talks while at the NFL combine. Yet, Spytek said the team will be interested in good players and Carroll said the Raiders’ quarterback competition will be “widely contested.”
The Athletic reported this week that the Raiders are heavily involved in the Stafford talks because they are not that high on the quarterbacks headed to free agency or the prospects at the top of the draft. Thus, if the Raiders don’t land Stafford, there will be a major question where the team decides to go at the position.
