The time is White for Zamir to hit paydirt
It’s been so long since we’ve been able to bet on the NFL that the money is burning a hole in our collective pockets. Now that the regular season is finally here, why not (responsibly) dive into some prop bets for the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers Week 1 matchup?
This season, SB Nation has partnered with FanDuel Sportsbook so let’s take a peek at a few prop bets that FanDuel is offering and make some picks.
[All odds are as of September 5 at 7:30 a.m. PT.]
Zamir White Anytime TD (+165)
I’m keeping things a little simple to begin the season in hopes that I can get out to a good start and get into the black right out of the gates. While White has only scored one touchdown during his career, it came against the Chargers in that Week 15 blowout. Plus, this will be his first full season as the Raiders lead back and we know that Antonio Pierce wants to run the ball into the ground.
Gardner Minshew Over 7.5 rushing yards (-114)
Again, staying on the conservative side to start the season as the payout isn’t great here. Part of the logic with this one is Los Angeles has a pretty good pass rush while Minshew is quick to leave the pocket and scramble. Reminder, in the NFL sacks don’t cost a quarterback rushing yards like they do in college. So, Minshew scrambling for eight or more yards seems like a decent bet. For reference, he’s done that 24 times in his career.
Jakobi Meyers 2+ Touchdowns (+3100)
Here’s where I’m chasing some odds in hopes of a big payout. Meyers had two touchdowns in the season opener against the Broncos last year and had a touchdown on just two catches in Week 15 against the Chargers. He also threw for a score versus Los Angeles but that wouldn’t count in this scenario. To be clear, he has to physically cross the ball over the goal line, i.e. receiving or rushing. This is a risky bet but the payout is nice, meaning this should be a half-unit type of wager.
