Former New England Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is eligible for a new contract, but he could be on the trade block this offseason. According to reports, the wide receiver is open to an extension, and since the Raiders are building a new regime with head coach Pete Carroll, the team could trade Meyers. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2019, the wideout has been operating as a solid contributor to the Raiders’ passing game. However, Meyers could be counting his days during his final, as the Las Vegas could explore other ways to strengthen the roster for new quarterback Geno Smith as well.
The wide receiver desires to stay on the Raiders for a long time, but Carroll could eye veteran Tyler Lockett and use the draft to salvage the pass-catching unit. After setting a record number of 1,027 receiving yards, Meyers has the leverage to get a new contract, but that doesn’t guarantee him a new contract as everyone should expect the Raiders to explore trading him during the NFL Draft. This isn’t the first time his name was brought up in those conversations and it probably won’t be the last time, but the Raiders might be better off establishing a few homegrown receivers for Smith.
For Meyers, this might be his last season with the Raiders. He will likely earn a worthy contract next off-season if the Raiders haven’t signed him. The last time they traded a wide receiver was with Davante Adams in 202,4 and Meyers might be the highlight of that this offseason.

3 Logical Fits
Carolina Panthers
Last season, the Carolina Panthers had a wide receiver problem. After benching quarterback Bryce Young and trading Diontae Johnson, the team was back to square one. Young came back into the lineup near the end of the 2024 campaign and while they’re not contenders just yet, they have a promising group this 2025 season. 2024 draft picks Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker were some of the best investments from head coach Dave Canales, but it’s time for them to lay the hammer.
They know veteran Adam Thielen probably has one or two more seasons left in the tank. Meyers might be more of a No. 1 receiver, but he might fit into the offensive system that’s turning into something potentially special.
New Orleans Saints
Meanwhile, the Saints are at risk of losing star Chris Olave. General Manager Mickey Loomis can’t put his pride ahead of them and allow head coach Kellen Moore to do his job. It seems like Brandin Cooks’ signing was Loomis’ idea, but they must find another capable receiver if they lose Olave. Marquez Valdes-Scantling had a career resurgence in New Orleans and turned the page for the Seahawks.
They might be able to do the same here with Meyers. He has that speed burst that could give whoever becomes the starting quarterback this year a boost.
Baltimore Ravens
There’s no such thing as too many pass catchers in this league. DeAndre Hopkins is only ring-chasing despite his signing, so the Ravens need to search for a long-term wideout to help Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. The Raiders would never send their best wideout to stay in the AFC, but anything is possible with the right deal.
