NFL media says Las Vegas might look into trading the star pass-rusher this offseason
Maxx Crosby’s future with the Las Vegas Raiders has been a hot topic of discussion for a while and don’t expect that chatter to stop anytime soon now that it’s the offseason. A recent article by NFL media’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport discussed several pass-rushers who could be on the move this spring, including Crosby.
“Sources say the long-term futures of Micah Parsons and Maxx Crosby with their current teams is also up in the air as massive contract extensions loom and new coaching staffs take over with the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively,” Pelissero and Rapoport wrote.
“…Still only 27, Crosby has said before he wants to be a ”Raider for life” and has been loyal to the organization. He also has been open about his frustrations with the team’s seemingly endless string of changes and mounting losses. Crosby wants to win and be a big reason behind the success.
“While the hiring of Super Bowl winner Pete Carroll was a step toward stability, the Raiders still don’t have a franchise quarterback and have a ton of work to do to field a competitive roster. Trading Crosby for a bounty of picks would be one way to expedite that process, and Crosby might welcome the change, particularly if it’s to a playoff team where he knows people (e.g. Green Bay). Crosby has two years and about $44 million remaining on the contract extension he signed in 2022.”
On the other hand, Crosby appeared on PFT Live during Super Bowl week in New Orleans and said the hirings of Carroll and general manager John Spytek along with Tom Brady’s presence have him “the most optimistic [he’s] been” with the franchise.
So, it doesn’t sound like the star pass-rusher wants to go anywhere this offseason, but that might be out of his control. We’ll see how it all shakes out as things should pick up at the end of the month during the NFL Combine where a lot of trade or contract extensions heat up.
In Other Raiders’ Links:
- Chip Kelly’s history with tight ends: the Raiders’ new offensive coordinator has been productive with 12 personnel in the past which is a good sign for Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer.
- Patrick Graham needs a rebound: “Yes, Graham’s unit this past season didn’t rank well. Overall, the group ranked 25th out of 32 allowing a total of 434 points on the season (25.5 points per game average),” Silver and Black Pride’s Ray Aspuria wrote. “The ranking is severely affected by the Raiders defense losing key starters to long-term injuries as Graham didn’t have defensive ends Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce, along with defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, cornerback Jakorian Bennett, and safety Marcus Epps for extended periods of time.”
- Mock Draft sends Will Johnson to Las Vegas: “The thought here is to pair a quality defensive front with talent on the back end,” Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski said. “No one in the Raiders’ cornerback room basically played above replacement level last season.”
- Gerald Alexander to Pittsburgh: The Silver and Black’s safeties coach is joining the Steelers’ coaching staff, per NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe.
