Las Vegas Raiders GM didn’t seem concerned that Miller will be missing voluntary workouts in a contract dispute
The Las Vegas Raiders draft plans are coming together with just three days until they make their pick at six. However, another issue has come up during their preparation that the new general manager, John Spytek, is ready to handle.
Kolton Miller, the Raiders’ starting left tackle, is in a contract dispute as his extension from 2021 nears its end. The former UCLA Bruin is the only survivor from Jon Gruden’s second stint as the Silver and Black head coach and has started 107 games over seven seasons.
During the franchise’s final press conference before the draft, Spytek was asked about the situation brewing with their franchise left tackle. He wasn’t ready to discuss the matter in public.
“I’m just going to give you our answer, and it’s going to be this going forward: we’re not going to discuss contracts publicly, and this is certainly a voluntary part of the offseason program. So, guys are free to come and go as they please.”
Spytek is being respectful of Miller, displaying his character as GM. Voluntary workouts are not mandatory, but with a new regime coming into the building, usually, there is participation across the board. If this spills into OTAs and Mini-camp, those worries of a trade might come to light. The draft on Thursday could exhibit how they feel about Miller’s future as the starting left tackle if they select a player high who can replace Miller after 2025.
