Las Vegas Raiders hired Ryan Paganetti as their head coach research specialist to help Pete Carroll with game management
Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll is known for his old-school approach. Seattle Seahawks fans noticed his reluctance to go for it on fourth down in a league where aggression has become the norm.
It is one of the reasons the Seahawks’ organization decided to move on from the Super Bowl-winning head coach. After a year away from the NFL, the Raiders swooped in and landed a coach who could turn around the program.
Carroll’s age is also a factor for the Seahawks, and many wonder if he could adapt to the modern landscape. The former USC head coach took the first step in that direction by hiring a head coach specialist. Ryan Paganetti will join the coaching staff and help Carroll with game management.
Pagnaetti was the director of football analytics for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. Also, he helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl in 2017. The 2017 Eagles helped push analytics to the forefront with their calculated approach that led to the championship.
Carroll taking this step should give Raiders fans hope he will display growth in areas of concern at the end of his run in Seattle. A data-based approach will be new for Carroll and hopefully will lead to success in the win column.
