Interim OC was excited to work with Norv in the booth last Sunday
The Las Vegas Raiders changed offensive coordinators during the bye week. Antonio Pierce decided to promote Scott Turner to the spot after firing Luke Getsy after nine games.
With Turner getting promoted to the position, they decided to add his father, Norv Turner, to the staff. It was Norv Turner’s first coaching role since 2019, and he advised his son on running the offense.
While the running game continues to be an issue, the Raiders consistently move the football. The offense punted once during the Dolphins game, converting 57% of their third downs, and designed concepts to target star rookie tight end Brock Bowers. For the most part, the tandem opening week was a success.
On Thursday, Turner spoke about his coaching experience with his father in the box.
“It was a cool experience. We talked about this last week, I didn’t think we were going to ever coach together again, so this is kind of like a bonus deal. So yeah, I mean I didn’t think about it much at the time other than like I’m getting great information, but when you reflect back on it like that, it was pretty cool.”
Hopefully, the father-and-son combo can continue to get the most out of a depleted offense. There is a chance they could lose their top two running backs on Sunday. They will have to maximize the players on the field to help the Raiders upset the Denver Broncos.
