In a span of just three days the Pittsburgh Steelers managed to double the size of their quarterback room.
First, they took Kenny Pickett with the 20th overall pick. Then, to the surprise of many, Mike Tomlin decided to add another quarterback late in the draft.
In Saturday’s seventh round, the Steelers selected former South Dakota State quarterback Chris Oladokun. He joins a Steelers’ quarterback room that already features Pickett, Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph.

This is a bit of a stunner.
It’s likely that Trubisky and Pickett battle for the starting gig. The loser will be backup. Rudolph and Oladokun, meanwhile, will probably fight for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.

“Honestly this might allow us to get rid of Rudolph lol. That might be the thought process here ultimately. He will certainly be a camp arm.”

It’s also worth noting both Pickett and Oladokun are mobile quarterbacks. It’s clear the Steelers want to go in that direction at the position.
Tomlin said this previously ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.
“Man, quarterback mobility is valued,” Tomlin said. “Not only by me but by everyone. It’s just a component of today’s game, and increasingly so.”
The Steelers will enter training camp with four quarterbacks on the roster.
