In response to the trade of longtime Falcons signal caller Matt Ryan on Monday, the Atlanta Falcons reached a two-year deal with veteran backup QB Marcus Mariota.
On Tuesday, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero revealed the full details of Mariota’s new contract with the Atlanta organization.
The deal begins with a one-year, $6.75 million agreement in 2022 and continues with a $12 million option in 2023. Mariota also receives a $5 million signing bonus and a $1.75 million guaranteed base salary this coming season. A $3 million roster bonus is due on the 5th day of the 2023 league year next March.

After he was selected with the No. 2 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2015, Mariota spent the next fives seasons as a starter in Nashville. He’s since spent the last two seasons as a backup QB behind Derek Carr in Las Vegas.
Mariota earned $3.5 million on his 2021 contract with the Raiders before becoming an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The eighth-year QB is familiar with Falcons head coach Arthur Smith from their time together with Tennessee.
Unless the Atlanta organization selects starting-caliber QB with their No. 8 overall pick, Mariota is set to be the team’s starting quarterback in 2022.
