Tom Brady and Bill Belichick spent 20 years together in New England, winning six Super Bowls and setting a bunch of NFL records.
However, there was clearly some friction between Brady and Belichick toward the end of their time together. And, according to one report, Brady actually had a potential replacement in mind for the Patriots head coach back in 2017.
“(Bill O’Brien) is who Tom Brady had lined up to be the head coach if he had won the power struggle in 2017. If (Bill) Belichick is out of here after everything that happened in 2017, I’m telling you Bill O’Brien is the head coach,” Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported.

That would’ve been something…
“So now they’ll think O’Brien is better than Belichick cause Brady is the actual coach and then he retires we stuck with O’Brien drafting the next QB,” one fan tweeted.
“S–t like this pushes me more toward believing the Pats made the right decision letting Brady walk. He just secretly became this huge diva. I have to have my guy in the plane and sidelines, and I want complete control over the roster and coaches. Well, then retire and become GM,” another fan added on Twitter.
“Seems like Brady likes undermining his coach or trying to oust them so I believe it,” another fan wrote on social media.
“Bill forced Brady to leave by limiting the options around him. He preferred Garappolo over Brady. He was a very cold fish towards Brady the last few years he was there,” one fan added.
Brady, 44, will be back for another season in Tampa Bay. The seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback is going for championship No. 8.
