Many of the players picked in the first round of the NFL Draft tonight made it to Las Vegas to attend the event. Others chose to tune in at home with friends and family.
Then, there is Penn State star Jahan Dotson, who was chosen by the Washington Commanders with the No. 16 overall pick. He wasn’t even paying attention to the draft when his phone rang.
It was Washington head coach Ron Rivera, telling the dynamic wide receiver he was about to hear his name called in the NFL Draft. Dotson, meanwhile, was tuned in to the NFL playoffs.
He told reporters he was watching Game 6 between the Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Pelicans on his phone when he got the call from his new head coach.

Perhaps Dotson figured he’d hear his name called tomorrow instead of tonight. Maybe he thought he would get picked but didn’t want to spend the night stressing about his future and just decided to let the chips fall where they may.
Either way, he’s a Commander now, and fans should be excited. In four seasons at PSU, Dotson hauled in 183 receptions for 2,757 yards and 25 touchdowns, including 20 scores in his final two campaigns.
He should have an immediate impact working in the same receiving corps as Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel.
